Mount the terminal/s near to where the employee/s are actually working. A 13Amp Socket outlet and network point should be setup not more than 2 metres from the clock or 2metres length of cable run. In view of the current irregular power supply situation being experienced in the region it is important that the server has a power backup system. This is most often in the form of a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply unit) or an inverter.
Terminals
Internal Battery Backup
When there is a power failure the data transactions that have already been recorded on the unit are protected by an internal lithium battery. Clocking can continue for as long as there is external power.
External Battery Backup
A small battery pack, supplied when the unit was installed, allows continued clockings for up to approximately 4 hours. The battery pack may be supplemented by the installation of an invertor, vehicle battery, or other power source. In some terminals this battery is inbuilt e.g. FA1 terminal.
Power Saving
Since clockings are often done at the start and end of a shift it may be worthwhile turning off the unit during the intervening period. This will conserve power used during prolonged power outages.
Hibernate
There is a function on the terminal which is designed to conserve power when the unit is not being used. The User can specify that if the terminal is not used for a specified number of minutes that it should hibernate, or 'Sleep'.
To activate the hibernate function:
•From the Main menu on the terminal select 'System', then 'Misc. Set'
•You will notice a field 'Sleep Time'
•Enter the number of minutes that the terminal will stay active after a transaction before going into sleep Mode
See topic 'Sleep Time'.
