Break Types

To enter the types of break that occur during a shift, or specific times of the day:

 

First setup the keys that the person would press on the terminal to Start and End the break.  This is done as follows:

Go to the 'Setup', 'Terminals', then 'Function Keys' menu options

 

Tip: normally the function keys on the left hand side of the terminal screen are used for Clocking in at the start of a shift and for the commencement of a break.  The function keys on the right hand side are used for Clocking Out and for the clocking back at the completion of a break.

Key

Enter the description of the function key that is to be used, as shown on the terminal keypad.

Key Number

The function keys can be numbered in any order.  The Function Key number for Clocking In should always be '0' and the Function Key number for Cocking Out should always be '1'.  On some terminals the F4 and F8 Function keys have been marked for Clocking In and Clocking out respectively, but infact any Function Key can be used as long as they are referenced '0' and '1' respectively.

Meal Type

If the terminal is being used in a canteen environment then Function Keys may be assigned to a specific meal types.

Description

Enter the description of the break type eg. 'Lunch' or 'Tea'

Clock

Use the dropdown menu to select the terminal that employees can use for the recording the start and end of a break.

Name

Describe the name of the break type that will be recorded.

Has a start and end time

Tick the checkbox if the break has a specific start and end time.  This activates the 'Start Time' and 'End Time' fields where you can enter those details.  If the break has a flexible start and end time then do not check the box.

Start Time

Enter the 'Start Time' for the break

End Time

Enter the 'End Time' for the break

Max Hrs

Enter the maximum time in hours and minutes for the break.  This is particularly useful in flexitime scenarios where the meal time is not specified but the maximum duration can be set.

Key Out

Use the dropdown menu to select the clock function key to be used for starting the break

Key In

Use the dropdown menu to select the clock function key to be used for ending the break

Auto convert to shorttime

If the employee exceeds the allowed time for the break, then marking this checkbox will covert the excess time to shorttime on the timecard.  If the checkbox is not ticked the excess time is recorded without the shorttime being deducted.
