We were able to take photos when we distributed food parcels. This helped us assist clients who applied for grants from SASSA, because they had to apply online through a cellphone. We could check the status of their applications using the SCAT-provided cellphone. Nobody trained us, but our younger staff, our administrator Makatso and fieldworker Nomweba, knew this technology. They tried to teach me, but hey... I’m 58 now. I’m old.
lessons from working during The covid-19 pandemic
I learned that there are a lot of people that are needy in our area, especially child- headed households. The caring mode was increased in our community, because during COVID-19 everybody was caring for somebody. There are older people who live alone, but during this pandemic they received assistance from their neighbours and families. Even the schools were so supportive. The teachers and the school governing body handed over food to the needy that they had bought for the school nutrition programme, which was not used when the schools were closed. People rediscovered their ubuntu.
